Final Project (Finally)
Above are images of work from my final project, based around a self devised idea for a children's book, where I produced storyboards for certain scenes to then produce designs for an animated version. I was constantly encouraged by my tutor to 'go 3D' with my ideas on this project. These designs were intended to produce a representation of a 'film still', to show elements of the art direction and intended overall look of the animation. The third image is the original rough doodle I did which gave me the idea for the story and the project, based around a little boy facing up to his fears involving a man in the house at the end of the woods. More to come later from this idea...

The Boy

This is a developmental illustration for my final project. The story is self devised and 'The Boy' is the main character. I'm aiming to produce completed character designs, one location/set design, storyboard and hopefully a book. All this needs to be finalized after easter! For now I am continuing to doodle/develop my designs...

Past Work Experience / Second Home Productions
Here's a link to a really great Animation and Production Company in Birmingham. I was lucky enough to volunteer with them during production week for the show 'Chasing Fate' at the Birmingham Hippodrome in 2008, where they designed the animated backdrops and screens which were integral to the production. Here's the link to their homepage and a screen grab from the website:

Finished Ubu
The first practical project of the third year is over! Thank Jeeves. This is how the previous maquette turned out, which I'm pleased with. Elements of the project felt at times like a nightmare as I gave myself a lot to do, but I got there in the end and it was a learning curve for things to come re: the final project (dun dun derrr!).

Uni Work (Slow) Progress
It can get quite tedious doing very fiddely things for a length of time so I'm having a time-out to post some progress. As part of my latest uni project I'm constructing maquettes of my character designs for an animation based on Alfred Jarry's Ubu Roi. Looks like a mound of sculpey at the moment. Which is precisely what it is, really... Better get a move on if both maquettes are going in the oven tonight. Or should I say, tomorrow morning...

Hello.
Hello.
I have not posted anything this month. In fact I haven't actually written anything about me or what I do at all. Quite why I am wanting to write something now whilst beer in hand getting ready to go out, I do not know. But here it is... I'm a third year design student, the exact title of this course being BA (Hons) Theatre, Performance and Event Design. But this is a bit misleading, I think. Basically, my work currently lies in the areas of production design for film, and character design, and within this I have a big interest in and a love of illustration. I'm currently working hard on my third year projects, and with deadlines looming, hope to be getting more on here soon.
Goodbye for now.
